Rugosas / hybrid rugosas are vigorous, prickly roses that have distinctly "wrinkled" foliage. They are particularly tough and need little maintenance; being tolerant of poor soils, cold, shade and salt. They have a strong, spicy fragrance and a long bloom time throughout the season, often being the first to show. They set large rose hips and make great hedges. The rose of choice for coastal settings.
