About Wild Rose Nursery | Rare and Heritage Rose Specialist

Wild Rose Nursery is a specialist rose propagation nursery located in the Yarra Valley, Victoria. As a sixth-generation grower with roots originating in the Netherlands, we bring centuries of combined horticultural expertise to the Australian landscape. We provide year-round shipping of potted roses across Australia, with our dedicated bare root season occurring mid-year during the winter months.

Our Specialisations

We are a certified David Austin grower, maintaining the highest standards for these beloved English roses. Beyond modern favourites, we are a primary source for rare and wild varieties often unavailable elsewhere:

  • Heritage & Ancient Roses: Including Mosses, Damasks, Gallicas, and Centifolias.
  • Species & Wild Roses: Such as Rugosas and unique wild species.
  • Modern Classics: Hybrid Teas, Floribundas, and Shrub roses.
  • Exclusive Breeding: We breed our own unique varieties, including our highly sought-after 'That Pretty Little Pink Thing'.

A Legacy of Australian Roses

Our nursery is deeply tied to the preservation of Australia's floral history. The owner, Reuben, continues the significant work of his father, John Nieuwesteeg, a renowned rosarian who famously restored many of the Alister Clark roses. By rescuing and cultivating these resilient, Australian-bred varieties, we continue to supply and support Australian heritage gardens with roses that are historically significant and perfectly suited to our climate.

Expertise & Community

We don't just grow roses; we advocate for them. Our team regularly contributes expert articles to national gardening magazines and is invited to speak on specialised rose topics at industry events. We are horticultural specialists and long-time, active members of advocacy groups including the Nursery & Garden Industry Victoria (NGIV).

While we are primarily an online nursery shipping Australia-wide, we value our connection to the gardening community. We occasionally host Nursery Open Days and attend select garden fairs and markets throughout the year. See Events Page
